Description
A decadent dessert that combines the warm, spiced flavors of apple butter with the heartiness of a traditional pie, perfect for autumn gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- For the Pie Crust:
- 1 and 1/4 cups all-purpose flour (or gluten-free option)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cut into small pieces
- 3–4 tablespoons ice water
- For the Filling:
- 1 cup apple butter
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 cup brown sugar (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Pie Crust: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Cut in the chilled butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough comes together. Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat the Oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Make the Filling: In a medium bowl, whisk together the apple butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and spices. If desired, add brown sugar and blend well.
- Assemble the Pie: Roll out the dough and transfer it to a 9-inch pie plate. Pour the apple butter filling into the crust.
- Bake the Pie: Bake for 45-50 minutes until the filling is set and crust is golden brown. Cool on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes.
Notes
