- 1 package puff pastry
- 1 cup basil pesto
- 2 cups shredded cheese (mozzarella or a blend)
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface and cut it into a tree shape.
- Spread the basil pesto evenly over the pastry, leaving some edges for the border.
- Sprinkle shredded cheese over the pesto.
- Fold the branches of the tree in toward the center, overlapping slightly.
- Brush the edges with the egg wash.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving. Serve warm as a festive appetizer.
Notes
For variations, try using different cheeses or add vegetables like roasted red peppers. This tree can also be frozen before baking for a quick festive treat later.
