Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • Red and green food coloring
  • Crushed candy canes for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs and peppermint extract to the mixture and blend until combined.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt.
  5. Mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just incorporated.
  6. Divide the dough in half; color one half with red food coloring.
  7. Wrap both portions in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  8. Take small pieces of each color, roll into ropes, twist together, and shape into candy canes.
  9. Place the cookies on the baking sheets and bake for 8–10 minutes until edges are golden.
  10. Cool on a wire rack, then drizzle with melted white chocolate and sprinkle with crushed candy canes for decoration.
