Description
Deliciously soft maple cookies topped with a nutty, glossy brown butter icing. Perfect for a sweet treat any time!

- 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 3/4 tsp fine salt
- 1 cup (226 g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup (220 g) dark brown sugar, packed
- 1/4 cup (50 g) granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) pure maple syrup
- 3 tbsp browned butter (for icing)
- 2 cups (240 g) powdered sugar, sifted (more for thicker glaze)
- 1–2 tbsp heavy cream or milk
- 1 tbsp maple syrup (optional, for stronger maple)
- Pinch of flaky salt
- 1 tsp light corn syrup (optional, for shine)
Instructions
- Line two baking sheets with parchment paper and preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- In a stand mixer, beat softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg and yolk, vanilla, and maple syrup, beating until just combined.
- Add dry ingredients in two parts, mixing until just combined.
- Chill dough for 20–30 minutes to relax gluten.
- Scoop and portion dough onto prepared sheets, leaving space between cookies.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes until edges are set and centers are slightly underbaked.
- Cool for 5 minutes on sheets and then transfer to cooling racks.
- To make icing, brown 3 tbsp butter until nutty, mix with powdered sugar, heavy cream, and maple syrup until smooth.
- Dip cookies into icing and let set at room temperature for 30–60 minutes.
Notes
For softer cookies, slightly underbake and store in an airtight container. If icing seizes, warm gently over a double boiler.
