Ingredients

- 1 tablespoon dried berberine powder or 1/4 teaspoon if using fresh extract
- 1 cup fresh lemon balm leaves, lightly packed or 1 tablespoon dried lemon balm
- 4 cups filtered water
- 1 cinnamon stick (optional)
- 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup (or to taste)
- A thin slice of lemon (optional)
- A small pinch of ginger (optional)
Instructions
- Measure the water and pour it into a small pot, warming it over medium heat until it reaches a soft simmer.
- Add fresh lemon balm leaves and cinnamon stick, stirring gently.
- Let the mixture simmer for about 5–8 minutes.
- Remove the pot from heat and let it cool slightly, then add the berberine and stir well.
- Let the mixture sit for 2–5 minutes.
- Strain into warm mugs and add honey or maple syrup to taste.
- Serve with a slice of lemon, if desired.
Notes
For a sweeter drink, adjust honey or syrup to taste. Pairing this drink with warm toast makes a delightful addition.
