For the Beef

  • 1 pound flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain Choose a tender cut for the best flavor.

For the Broccoli

  • 2 cups broccoli florets Blanch to maintain color and texture.

For the Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce Provides a slightly sweet flavor.
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, grated Essential for flavor.

For Cooking

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (canola or peanut) For stir-frying.
  • to taste Salt and pepper To season.

Preparation

  • In a medium bowl, combine the sliced beef, soy sauce, cornstarch, and sesame oil. Mix well and let it marinate for 30 minutes.
  • Blanch the broccoli in boiling water for 1-2 minutes until bright green and slightly tender. Transfer immediately into ice water to halt the cooking process, then drain.

Cooking

  • Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large wok or skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry until browned and cooked through, about 3-5 minutes. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  • In the same pan, add another tablespoon of oil. Sauté the minced garlic and grated ginger until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
  • Return the beef to the pan, followed by the blanched broccoli. Stir in the oyster sauce and mix everything together, seasoning with additional soy sauce or salt if needed.
  • Serve hot over cooked rice.

Notes

To avoid overcooking the beef, monitor the cooking time closely. A good marinade times adds flavor, so don’t skip it. For variations, consider adding bell peppers or making a vegetarian version with tofu.
