  • 1 sleeve Saltine Crackers Around 40 crackers; provides the salty, crispy base.
  • 1 cup Unsalted Butter Creates the rich, buttery toffee.
  • 1 cup Light Brown Sugar Packed; melts with the butter to form the caramel layer.
  • 2 cups Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips Use good quality chocolate for best melt and flavor.

  • Flaky sea salt Enhances flavor.
  • Crushed M&Ms For a colorful topping.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large, rimmed baking sheet (approx. 15x10 inches) with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  • Arrange the saltine crackers in a single, tight layer across the pan.

Making the Toffee

  • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and brown sugar together until it reaches a rolling boil, stirring occasionally.
  • Let it bubble for 3-5 minutes without stirring; the mixture will thicken slightly.

Baking

  • Immediately pour the hot toffee mixture evenly over the crackers, using a spatula to spread it.
  • Transfer the pan to the oven and bake for 4-5 minutes, until the toffee is bubbly.

Add Chocolate

  • Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over the hot toffee.
  • Let them sit for 1-2 minutes to melt, then spread into a smooth layer.

Decorate and Chill

  • While the chocolate is still wet, add your favorite toppings and gently press them in.
  • Refrigerate for at least 1 hour (or freeze for 30 minutes) until completely firm.

Serving

  • Once chilled, lift the parchment paper to remove the slab from the pan and break it into irregular pieces.

Notes

Store in an airtight container. It can last up to 3 days at room temperature, a week in the refrigerator, or 3 months in the freezer.
