Ingredients
  

For the Meat Mixture

  • 1 lb ground meat (beef, turkey, or lamb) Use lean options for a healthier dish.
  • 1 cup broth (chicken or beef) For added flavor.
  • 1-2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce Adds depth of flavor.

For the Vegetables

  • 1 cup diced onions Sauté until transparent.
  • 1 cup carrots (diced) Adds sweetness.
  • 1 cup peas Fresh or frozen.

For the Mashed Potatoes

  • 2 lbs potatoes (red or Yukon gold) For creamier mashed potatoes.
  • 4 tbsp butter For richness.
  • 1/2 cup milk or cream Adjust for desired consistency.
  • to taste salt and pepper Season to your liking.

Preparation

  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add a tablespoon of olive oil.
  • Sauté diced onions until they become transparent, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Add carrots and peas and cook for another 5-7 minutes, until tender.

Cooking the Meat

  • Add ground meat to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spatula.
  • Drain excess fat if necessary. Stir in Worcestershire sauce and herbs.

Assembling the Casserole

  • Pour broth into the meat mixture and let simmer for about 5 minutes.
  • Boil and mash potatoes until smooth, adding butter and milk. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Spoon the meat mixture in a casserole dish and layer mashed potatoes on top.

Baking

  • Bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden and the edges are bubbly.

Notes

Allow the casserole to rest for a few minutes after baking for easier serving. Adapt the recipe by swapping meats or adding cheese to the mashed potatoes for a richer flavor.
